I think Business Style has significantly evolved over the past years. Fashion has become such an important part of daily life, and it’s no surprise that the office dress code has changed as well. I’ve spent many years in the corporate environment, and I have tested various business styles. It is because of this that I decided to start a blog where I could share my experience and tips on how to stay elegant and chic in an office setting. I think that today, women have become a bit more brazen and confident in expressing individuality and style, that’s why today we don’t see as many dull office suits in a corporate setting. In fact, it’s the opposite; I see additional stylish shapes, asymmetric length, bright colors and bold prints. Both women and men are not shy about accessorizing; there is leather and jewel-encrusted clothes, neon colors and sky high hills.
So, what is the office dress code these days and how fashion forward can you really dress in the corporate world? I believe that business dress code etiquette is more flexible and more open to experiment then in the past, so hope you will like my Top 5 Trends for Business Style.
1. Bright Colors
Expressing your style through bright colors such as red, pink or yellow has become a popular trend. What do you know about color psychology? Understanding and using color psychology could help to close the gap between what you are trying to communicate and what is actually perceived. Colors have a big impact on our thoughts, attitudes, and reputation, hence why it’s essential to make smart color decisions when you are establishing yourself as a business person. Color has a powerful subconscious effect, therefore, if you have knowledge of color meanings in business you will automatically get a powerful tool to get the best response to your marketing and promotional efforts, and you will be able to develop a successful business, profile or a business style. I say yes to bright colors because they are considered inspiring and suggest a strong and confident personality.

2. Unique Shapes
Many designers today celebrate modern women through unusual dress cuts, forms, shapes and asymmetric lengths. Experimenting with unique shapes could add to the style a bit of boldness and chicness at the same time. My absolute favorite designers for creative shapes are Roland Mouret, Rodarte, Roksanda Ilincic and Lanvin. I would describe these brands’ as elegant, classy but with a pinch of masculinity; they create a perfect balance of power.
I am a big believer in accessories. My absolute essentials are belts and scarves; these two pieces can change the look immediately. Belts are a necessity because you can quickly dress up a simple dress and create a stunning look. And what is amazing about scarves, there’s more than one way to wear them! (See 5 Ways to Stylishly Wear Your Scarf) I also see more men experimenting with scarves, bracelets and rings. Women tend to use more earrings and pendant, but rings are definitely becoming a popular trend.
It’s difficult to imagine women a decade ago in bright stand-out prints. Grey, beige and other pastel colors prevailed in the corporate world. However, today, you can express yourself through bright patterns like Emilio Pucci or eye-catching floral prints that will make a woman look feminine and glamorous at the same time. Prints may be more appropriate for the summer, but even in the winter I notice women brighten up their day in Prada and DVF prints.
5. Statement Handbags
A handbag can tell a lot about your personality, and it’s almost like a mirror to your soul. I think handbags are one of the most important elements of the business style. So, if you want to stand out, try briefcases by Tom Ford. A massive gold zipper creates an edgy and masculine look. For a more classic look try Berluti.
Historic French boot maker Berluti has a wide range of brief cases that make a woman look strong and confident yet elegant and formal at the same time. I recently bought a Berluti Deux Jours bag that is a perfect briefcase for client meetings and a short business trip. It’s made from a soft, fine, high end leather, it has two compartments and a nice zipped outside pocket. Deux Jours bags have plenty of room for accessories, cosmetics, change of clothes, laptop and presentation materials.
